With the increasing youth numbers
of over 65% in developing economies especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, experts and
planners have reached a sloping point when it comes to ideas on how best to
engage young people or youths to be conscious and responsible citizens in
various disciplines. Today, sustainable development and the green economy are
the new focus of research, education, and development in most countries earlier
understood simply to be natural resources management and environment.
In today’s economy, young people
are participating positively and contributing ideas towards development initiatives
based on changes given the emergence of know-how and understanding of the
importance of small actions of green towards protecting the environment. This
is an important milestone especially considering that developing countries lag
compared to the rest of the world in terms of technological capabilities,
social protection, manufacturing, and political will.
In the developing economies
like Uganda, the emergence of new problem diagnosis and solving techniques is a
critical step that fosters the building up of local intelligence, creativity
and innovation. Furthermore, their current steps are holistic and embrace a
broad range of issues such as leadership, entrepreneurship, higher education,
community development and outreach.

There is a growing recognition
that we have reached a tipping point when it comes to ideas on how best to
engage young people or youths to be conscious and responsible global citizens
in various disciplines. Today, Teens Uganda engages in several promotional,
advocacy and development programmes that highlight the important of involving
young people in decision making processes on issues of sustainable development
and approaches leading to green economies as a new focus of research,
education, and development focusing on Renewable Energy, Food security and Ecosystems
and Non-Motorised Transport.
